Arkansas Rural Health Transformation Program

Keep surgery close to home.

SurgiCalendar gives rural hospitals and their visiting surgeons one shared surgical schedule, so open OR time gets filled with local cases. It is ready to include as a line item in your RHTP project.

The challenge

Rural ORs run on visiting surgeons. Scheduling hasn't caught up.

Many schedules, one surgeon

Visiting surgeons split their weeks across several hospitals. Each hospital keeps its own calendar, and the surgeon’s clinic keeps another.

Open time is found too late

When block time is released, staff often hear about it by phone or fax after the chance to fill it has passed.

Cases leave the community

Patients travel farther for surgery, and the hospital loses the volume it needs to keep its OR open.

How SurgiCalendar helps

One schedule for every site and every surgeon.

SurgiCalendar works alongside your existing EHR. Nothing gets replaced, and your staff keep the systems they already know.

One shared schedule

Surgeons, clinic schedulers and hospital staff see the same OR schedule and block time in real time.

Released time, right away

Open and released block time shows up as soon as it opens, so your team can fill it with local cases.

Fewer calls and faxes

Case requests, updates and vendor rep coordination move into one workflow with automatic notifications.

One login across hospitals

Surgeons who operate at several hospitals manage every case from a single login.

Fit with RHTP

Built to fit the PACT initiative.

Arkansas’s PACT initiative (Promoting Access, Coordination, and Transformation) funds projects that expand specialty care and improve coordination across providers. A shared surgical schedule supports several of those priorities at once.

Hospitals apply for RHTP funds, and SurgiCalendar is included as a line item in the hospital’s project. We make that part easy.

PACT priorityHow SurgiCalendar supports it
Access to specialty careMakes it easier for visiting surgeons to schedule and perform more cases locally.
Care coordinationConnects surgeon clinics, hospital surgical staff and vendor reps in one workflow.
Integrated networks and shared dataCreates one surgical schedule that can span every hospital in a network or consortium.
Technology modernizationMoves surgical scheduling off phone and fax without replacing your EHR.

The RHTP-ready kit

Rural grant teams are stretched thin. After a short call, we give your team the pieces it needs to include SurgiCalendar in your next PACT application.

Project description

Ready-to-use language written in PACT terms and tailored to your hospital.

Budget and sustainability plan

A clear budget line and a plan for funding the platform after the grant period ends.

Multi-hospital version

For networks and consortia, one visiting-surgeon calendar across every participating site.

Support letter language

A starting point for the letters of support your application may need.

Made in Arkansas

Built here, by people who know surgery.

SurgiCalendar is an Arkansas-built company co-founded by a practicing orthopedic surgeon. We understand how visiting surgeons, clinic staff and rural hospitals actually work together, because we have lived it.

Designed to sustain itself

[N] additional local cases a month covers the annual subscription.

That makes the post-grant sustainability plan straightforward to write.

Questions

Common questions

Do we have to replace our EHR?

No. SurgiCalendar works alongside the EHR you already use. It adds a shared scheduling and coordination layer without replacing anything.

Can SurgiCalendar apply for RHTP funds for us?

No. Only eligible organizations such as hospitals, health systems and clinics can apply. SurgiCalendar is included as a line item in your project, and we provide the language and support to make that easy.

What does it cost?

[Pricing summary.] We will give you an exact budget line for your application after our first call.

Does SurgiCalendar guarantee an award?

No. Awards are made by the State of Arkansas. Our role is to help your hospital describe the project clearly and plan for it after the grant period.
